SUPER soaraway Stourport Swifts climbed to sixth spot in the Midland Football League this week after thumping Tipton Town 3-1, writes Nick Pullen.

Swifts followed up that success on Tuesday with a 2-1 win at AFC Wulfrunians to reach the League Cup quarter-finals as well.

Delighted Swifts boss Rod Brown insisted: “We played really well in both games, we had to, because they were good sides. We played with tempo and desire, but also converted our chances.”

Goals from Lewis Pountney, Karl Fellows and Luke Morris sealed the points at Tipton after Swifts had gone a goal down. They also struck the crossbar twice in the first half for good measure.

Jamie Willetts and Kevin Spencer struck the target against Wulfs, while other chances went begging.

Swifts host fifth placed Lye Town at Walshes Meadow this Saturday in a local derby contest.

Swifts will be without Calvin Dinsley who has signed for Southern League Premier side Redditch United.

Brown has waived the seven days notice and said: “Calvin deserves his chance. He turned down Halesowen Town twice a couple of years ago. He trained with Redditch last Thursday and will link up with them again this Thursday, but I’ve made an arrangement with their manager Liam McDonald that we can keep his registration, so he could still play for us in midweek, or whenever Redditch don’t have a game.

“Jordan Jones has done well at Redditch since leaving us and Calvin can do the same. It’s up to him now.”

Brown will wait to see whether Paul Hurrell can recover from a hamstring problem in time to face Lye.

Hurrell, who was previously at Kidderminster Harriers Academy, has proved a revelation since being switched to right back.

Brown confirmed: “He never showed a consistent level of form in midfield but he has been outstanding at right-back.”
