FORMER Wyre Forest District Council Labour leader, Jamie Shaw, is again up for election after losing his seat on the council last year.

Mr Shaw, a district councillor for 23 years, lost his Areley Kings seat in a shock result to Independent Health Concern's John Thomas.

Fourteen seats - one-third - will be contested on Thursday, May 1, when Mr Shaw aims to take back his old place on the council.

The Conservatives currently hold the most seats on the council, with 18, while 10 are held by Independent Health Concern, seven by the Liberals, three by Labour, two by Independents and two by the Liberal Democrats.

Elections this year are taking place in Aggborough & Spennells, Areley Kings, Bewdley & Arley, Broadwaters, Franche, Greenhill, Habberley & Blakebrook, Lickhill, Mitton, Offmore & Comberton, Oldington & Foley Park, Rock, Sutton Park and Wribbenhall.

The Conservatives hold six of those seats, Independent Health Concern one, Labour one, the Liberals three, Liberal Democrats one and Independents two.

Aggborough & Spennells ward is held by Liberal Democrat, Helen Dyke, Areley Kings Conservative Maureen Mason, Bewdley & Arley by Independent Louise Edginton, Broadwaters by Liberal Robert Wheway, Franche by Conservative Jeffrey Baker, Greenhill by Liberal Graham Ballinger, Habberley & Blakebrook by Labour's Lynn Hyde, Lickhill by Independent Health Concern's Brian Glass, Mitton by Conservative John Holden, Offmore & Comberton by Liberal Fran Oborski, Oldington & Foley Park by Conservative Nathan Desmond, Rock by Independent John Simmonds, Sutton Park by Conservative Marcus Hart, and Wribbenhall by Conservative William Jones.
