Husum Ahoy!!

         August 2013 may seem a long way off but plans are already afoot for a week long visit to Husum, timed to coincide with our twin town's Harbour Festival, by the "Oldies"  - Kidderminster folk who first exchanged with Husumers as teenagers in teh 60's & 70's.          They  are hoping that some newcomers  to Twinning, of whatever age group,  will take this opportunity  to join in and discover for themselves the delights of Husum.  The group will be flying out from Birmingham on Wednesday 7th August and returning on Tuesday13th August. Most fun is had when staying with host families – and  there is no need to speak German! - but there are also excellent hotels in the town for those who prefer that.         Quite apart from all the usual harbourside entertainments, our own Kidderminster Male Voice Choir will be participating next year, making it an extra special time to visit!          For further information, please contact Hilary Boyle on 01562 68535 or via  http://www.kidderminster-husum-twinning.co.uk/

Twinning Exhibition June 2012

The show goes on! Although the Quilt Exhibition in the top gallery of Kidderminster library has been cancelled due to the proposed changes of use, the display by the Twinning Association originally timed to coincide with this will still go ahead- admission is free during normal library opening hours. Kidderminster's Forest Quilters & the Storm Quilters from Husum now plan to hold their exhibition in the reconfigured library in May 2013 when some of the Husum quilters will be visiting Kidderminster again, Meanwhile, the twenty display cases on the first floor will be used throughout the month of June to showcase the Twinning Association and many of the groups who are past and present Twinners. The portable display stand will also be on show in the library foyer. The exhibition will be opened by visiting dignitaries from Husum and Charles Talbot, vice-president of the Twinning Association, at 11am on Friday 1st June

Quilt Exhibition Cancelled

Forest Quilters and Husum's Storm Quilters joint exhibition on the theme "My home, my town, our friendship" should have been on display in the top floor gallery of Kidderminster library throughout June 2012. This display has already been exhibited in Husum's Town Hall gallery to great acclaim! Unfortunately all the uncertainties about proposed changes to Kidderminster library have led to CANCELLATION of the above exhibition. It is hoped it may now be staged in May 2013 when the Husum quilters will be visiting Kidderminster

King Charles High School pupils set off on 22nd September for a return trip to Husum. 10 boys & girls, aged between 13 and 16,accompanied by two teachers. will continue the exchanges with Theodor Storm School. During the week some time will be spent in lessons with their German partners but some exciting activities and trips out are also in the programme!The party will have the opportunity to visit the aquariums and whale house at Toenning in the Wadden Sea National Park; the Science Centre at Flensburg and to take a boat trip to Hallig Hooge, one of the many small offshore islands,

Green Fingers Visit!

Keen gardeners from Husum will be making their fourth visit to Kidderminster next month. Instead of their normal July trip for the Kidderminster Horticultural Society Open Gardens Day, this visit is timed in order to see for themselves the spectacular Autumn Show. This will be held at the Ramada on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th September.

QUIZ NIGHT 14th OCTOBER

All quiz addicts – and anyone just wanting a great evening (& food!) - are invited to the next Twinning Association Quiz Night to be held at 7.30pm on Friday 14th October at the Valley Suite at Kidderminster's Severn Valley Railway station! Teams of four compete, but numbers are not vital: fewer or more bodies really don't matter as people can link up on the night to make up a team – and some new friends! Many of the groups linked to Twinning join this highly enjoyable fund raising event but everyone is welcome.
