Taking fingerprints was the order of the day for members at the April meeting, not for police purposes but for the village hall archives.

A finger print tree is being made by each organisation using the village hall as part of the hall’s tenth anniversary celebrations.

The evening’s speaker was Christine Gledhill who explained that the making of jam totally dominates her life. Christine, a former teacher, enjoys searching for fruits in the countryside, particularly any unusual varieties, and converting of them into jams and chutneys.

Patsy Anderson, the president, invited members to Mollie Long’s ever popular East African Curry Lunch at Church House on April 24.

The proceeds will be sent to the Nandi Hills Branch of the East African Women’s League to support their work with handicapped children. On Wednesday, May 28 arrangements have been made for members to visit the Elgar Birthplace Museum, which will be followed by an informal Lunch at the Bell Inn, Lower Broadheath. Plans are well under weigh for the Annual WI outing to Hardwick Hall on June 27.

Jacki Clark will host the Garden Party Evening on July 28.

Anne Freeston gave information on several national and federation events, including the samba dance evening at Areley Kings Village Hall on September 26.

Pam Eves, the winner of the 2013 Denman College Bursary, joined six other members of Areley Kings WI for the Worcestershire week-end at the College in March.

Her glowing report of the friendship, the food, the activities, and her chosen course on box making was read by Cherry Greaves.

The competition for a hedgerow jam jar display was won by Di Hackett with Lin Edwards and Mollie Long second and third.The next meeting will be held on May 12when the National Resolution on organ donation will be discussed.

Margaret Cook, delegate to the National Federation AGM in Leeds, will lead the discussion. This will be followed by a dress rehearsal of the entertainment being prepared by the WI for the village hall anniversary celebrations.

The meeting will be held at Areley Kings Village Hall at 7.30pm.
