The August Antics evening was well-supported and a great success in spite of having to change the venue to the village hall because of the effects of the sustained rain.

The lovely supper with delicious puddings, the raffle, the lucky dip and a quiz made it an all-round enjoyable evening.

Forthcoming outings include a lunch and cinema trip in September to see Anna Karenina and the Christmas shopping trip to Bath.

Rehearsals are now under way for the choir and the Shrinkin’ Violets in preparation for Christmas and the lunch club is resuming after the August break.

Speaker Ray Sturdy gave an entertaining talk and slide show entitled ‘A Drop of the Hard Stuff’ which was about his almost 300-mile cycle ride round the Ring of Kerry in southern Ireland in aid of Mencap. The next meeting on Wednesday, October 3 will be a members’ evening when attendees will enjoy pre-ordered fish and chips and a game of short mat bowls.
