HARRIERS captain Keith Briggs hopes to add more goals after scoring in Tuesday night's 4-1 win over Kettering.

Briggs scored the third and killer goal as Harriers romped to their biggest win in the Blue Square Bet Premier on Tuesday night.

It was only his third for the club since arriving from Stalybridge Celtic on a two-year deal.

The former Stockport and Norwich man admits he's struggled to replicate his goal-scoring form at previous clubs as he plays in a more withdrawn midfield role.

He said: "We've got a lot of attacking players so I've had to sit in midfield play a little bit deeper but if that's helping the team then so be it.

"I must be doing something right because we're sixth in the league.

"I would like to get on the scoresheet more and hopefully I might go on a run of scoring goals now."

Victory over Kettering kept Harriers on the play-off trail and was also a positive response to the news the club is set to be docked five points for a breach of Football Conference financial reporting regulations.

But the skipper praised manager Steve Burr for building a team pushing for the play-off spots with a reduced budget.

He said: "It's disappointing to have five points docked but we can't help what's happening at the other end of the club, all we can do is go out, perform to our best, stick together and get results.

"The gaffer has put together a good set of lads and has a great morale in the dressing room and we keep going out and showing that on the pitch.

"I still there's more to come from the lads and if we keep together I don't think we're far off to be fair.

"The gaffer's had a word with us at half-time. We had missed a few good chances in the first half where we could have been 3-0 up but we didn't take them.

"In the second half he wanted us to express ourselves and be more clinical and I think that's what I've done with some great finishes."

It means Harriers go into tomorrow's Blue Square Bet Premier clash at struggling Barrow in confident mood.

Burr will have options in defence with the return of the suspended Mark Albrighton and the fit again Lee Vaughan and Michael Briscoe, who had both went down with the flu.

With Ollie Thorne loaned to Rushden and Diamonds, Harriers had found their defensive options so limited against Kettering that top scorer Chris McPhee had played in the back four.

The manager was enthused by his side's four-star performance against the Poppies, although he did give them a half-time pep talk after Harriers had wasted a host of goal-scoring chances in the first period.

"I thought the performance against Kettering overall was excellent, it was a really good all-round performance," commented the manager.

"I had a little go at them at half-time because again we had some good chances in the first half to give ourselves a little bit of a cushion.

"One mistake by a defender or goalkeeping can punish and I said to the boys to go and take the chances that come our way and we did that."

Harriers face a side Barrow side who have not won in their last five matches and are only out of the bottom four because their goal-difference is superior to Hayes and Yeading.

They will be without the services of defender Simon Spender, who damaged cruciate ligaments in Saturday's loss to Cambridge.
