NEW signing John Finnigan believes that Kidderminster Harriers are the perfect fit for him.

The 33-year-old joined the Aggborough outfit on a two-yeal deal after leaving Cheltenham Town after seven years distinction.

But the influential midfielder, who lives in Tewkesbury, can see comparisons with the Whaddon Road based club and has already started to feel at home.

Finnigan signed for Harriers after settling a deal to end the last year of his contract at the Robins.

He teamed up with former Cheltenham Town teammate and now Harriers manager Mark Yates.

"I've had a couple of seasons when I've been stopping and starting, partly to do with injuries and partly because of the manager changing things round at Cheltenham," commented the midfielder.

"There were a few factors, Harriers are quite close to where I live, it's a good standard of football and I know Mark [Yates] and Neil [Howarth].

"I've been here a couple of times and they play kind of football I like to play.

"It's a lovely ground as well, so it's perfect for me.

"You come to the ground and it's almost a replica of Cheltenham. I feel right at home straight away.

With Harriers' squad packed with a host of young players, Finnigan believes he further help them improve.

He watched a youthful side out play Port Vale in their final pre-season friendly, before making his Harriers debut as a second half substitute in the 2-2 draw at Aggborough on Saturday.

He said: "I'm 33 now so I've got plenty of games under my belt.

"There's a lot of good young players here who could probably play at a higher level, so if I can help them and make them better players along with the mangement I think everyone will benefit from that.

"I'm excited by the squad. I sat in the dug out watching us play Port Vale and there was some absolutely brilliant football at times, they couldn't get near us so there's loads of energy and some experience so it looks like a good blend.

"If we can keep everyone fit I don't see why we can't go further than last season."

Finnigan is also predicting that it won't take long before he gets back to full fitness and the Harriers fans see his best.

"It's been a while since I've been out on the pitch, I've done my own training and doing a lot of gym work.

"I've only had a few sessions with the boys so it's nice to get out and play.

"I think I'll need a couple of 90 minutes before I'm back to something like my best, but once I do that I'll be fine," he added.
